Recreation Commission


The purpose of the Recreation Commission to promote the general welfare of the community by providing recreational activities for children and other citizens of the Town of Woodstock.


The full Recreation Commission meets monthly, usually on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Special Subcommittee meetings are scheduled as needed. Agendas and minutes are available at the Town Hall and on this website. Meetings are open to the public.


The Recreation Commission is a five member group created by the Board of Selectmen. The terms of office are two years running concurrently with the Board of Selectmen each municipal election.

We need volunteers. Do you have great ideas? Would you like to see new programs? Do you have a little time? If you would like more information on how to get involved with this fun and dedicated commission, call us at 860-928-6595 ext. 332.

Woodstock Fuel Assistance Donations: The Woodstock Recreation Commission is pleased to announce that we were able to donate $1,000 from the Memorial Day 10K Road Race proceeds to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund. We donated an additional $700 to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund from the proceeds of our 6th Annual Town Wide Tag Sale. Thank you to our sponsors for those two events, and to everyone who participated. 

New Recreation Park Facility: Located on Senexet Village Road (Behind the Beeches Real Estate off Route 171): Soccer field, walking trail, and basketball court. For more information contact the Recreation Department.

Woodstock 39th Annual Memorial Day 10K Road Race: Join us Monday, May 27th for our 39th Annual Memorial Day 10K Road Race. Preregister online here by April 27th for a free athletic shirt. Race day registration from 7:30-8:45 at the Woodstock Academy Fieldhouse Gym. Race starts promptly at 9 am. Registration fee before May 10th is $25, afterwards registration is $30. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Program. For more information click here to download a registration form.

Town Wide Tag Sale: The Woodstock 7th Annual Town Wide Tag Sale will be Saturday June 8th, with a rain date of Sunday June 9th. A $15 registration fee will get your location printed on the tag sale map. Maps will be for sale for $2 at the town hall and at Garden Gate Florist from May 30th - June 7th. Proceeds benefit the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund. Click here to download a registration form. 

Yoga Summer Session will be held at the Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1. Classes will take place on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm on the following dates: May 20, June 3, 10, 17, 24, July 1, 8, 15. Class will be held at the WMS Music Room on June 3. The cost is $64 for 8 classes, $35 for 4 classes, or a drop in rate of $10 per class. Click here for the Summer Yoga registration form. 

Volleyball Summer Camps: Join us for 1, 2, or 3 sessions of our General Skills Volleyball camps. These camps are a great opportunity to learn and develop the proper fundamentals of the game from beginner to varsity level. Courts will be broken down by ability level and coached by high school coaches and collegiate players. Camps will take place in the Woodstock Academy Gymnasium (North Campus). Dates are 7/22-25; 7/29-8/1; 8/ 5-8 Cost: $95 or $170/two; $210/three. Family Discounts available. Preseason Skills Volleyball Camp: This camp is a great opportunity to practice skills and scrimmage to get ready for the upcoming volleyball season. Camp will take place in the Woodstock Academy Gymnasium (North Campus) August 19, 20, 21. Spring Squirt Soccer: An introduction to soccer for 3 and 4 year olds. Players will have 30 minutes to learn simple drills, easy ball handling skills and most of all just have fun learning the sport of soccer. Children must be age 3 by May 4, 2019. Saturdays May 4, 11, 18, 25 & June 1, 8 (Rain Date June 15) at the Woodstock Elementary School field from 9:00 to 9:30 AM. Please send registration form in by April 18th. Senior Fitness: Senior Fitness classes will be held on Wednesday mornings from 11 am-12:00 noon downstairs at the Woodstock Town Hall on the following dates: April 17, 24 & May 1, 8, 22, 29. Cost: $24 (For all 6 classes), $12 (For any 3 classes), or $5 Drop-In.

Team Up to Clean Up Woodstock: Join us on Saturday April 27th for Woodstock's 1st Annual Clean Up Day! This program is funded in part by The Last Green Valley and is co-sponsored by the Conservation Commission. Meet at Roseland Park between 8am - noon to register and pick up gloves, trash grabbers, safety vests, and trash bags. You can either walk your own road or be assigned a road that needs to be cleaned up. Please leave trash bags at intersections for pick up, and let us know where they are. Registration form available here. If you'd rather do another day, contact the recreation director to pick up supplies anytime from April 12th to May 12th. Please complete a Trash Tracker sheet and turn it in after your walk to help The Last Green Valley track how much trash has been picked up. Thank you!

W.R.E.C.K. After school Gym Games: Woodstock Recreation is proud to partner with W.R.E.C.K. (Where Recreation & Exploration Catapult Kids) to offer a chance for middle school students to participate in a variety of fun & active gym games. Class meets Fridays from 2:45-3:34 in the WMS gymnasium. Session I meets March 29, April 5, and April 12 (3 weeks for $27). Session II meets May 3, 10, 24, & 31 (4 weeks for $36). HIIT Fitness Class: HIITS is High Intensity Interval Training. Test your limit with this fast-paced class! Over 45 minutes we will work sets followed by active rest. We will use our body weight to work every muscle group and our cardiovascular fitness. This class runs Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:15 pm. Classes at Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1 on May 9, 23, 30, June 13 AND Classes held at WMS Music Room May 2, 16, and June 6, 20 (8 Weeks total). WMS Kids Yoga: After school yoga for Woodstock Middle School students, held at the Woodstock Middle School music room on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:25. Class size is limited to 15 participants. Cost is $36 for four classes. Yoga mats are provided. Dates are May 8, May 15, May 22, & June 5. Click here to download a registration form.

Adult Co-Ed Basketball and Volleyball play Monday and Tuesday nights respectively at the WMS gymnasium. Due to the children's recreational basketball program both groups will now start at 8:30 pm and play till 10:30 pm. Contact the recreation director for more information.

Senior Corner

Wii for SeniorsWii Gaming for Woodstock Seniors: The Wii Gaming System is a fun, interactive program that promotes healthy lifestyles through physical active play. Games include tennis, bowling, golf, and dancing. Games are played on a big screen with the use of hand held controllers. The cost is FREE. Please contact the recreation director to schedule your introductory session. All participants must fill out a waiver of liability prior to using the game system. Community Kitchen - Every Monday at noon at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock there is a community kitchen event. Local churches take turns each week preparing and serving a free meal for all guests who come. Meals are not served on Holidays, and when Woodstock schools are cancelled.

Tai Chi - Every Tuesday and Thursday there is a free, informal Tai Chi class offered at the East Woodstock Congregational Church from 10-11 am.


 2019 Bus Trips


June 22 Bronx Zoo Bus Trip: Join Woodstock Recreation for a fun day filled with adventure at the Bronx Zoo. Bus leaves from the Woodstock Town Hall at 6:30 am. Price includes round trip motor coach fare, driver tip, and the Total Experience Package at the Bronx Zoo. This package includes admission and unlimited access to the Bug Carousel, Butterfly Garden, Children’s Zoo, Congo Gorilla Forest, Wild Asia Monorail, Zoo Shuttle, and Jungleworld. Adults: $80, Seniors (65+): $78, Children (3-12): $75 Click here to download the registration form. 

June 22 Red Sox Bus Trip: Boston Red Sox vs. the Toronto Blue Jays! Bus leaves from Pomfret Community School parking lot at 1 pm. Game starts at 4:05 pm. Seats are in the Infield Grand Stand Section 30, 3rd base side, under the roof! Tickets are $118 (checks made payable and sent to Pomfret Rec. Dept. Click here to download a registration form.

Alternatively they can be left in the drop box outside of town hall, in the drop box on the wall next to the Recreation office, or handed to the recreation director.
