Recreation Commission


The purpose of the Recreation Commission to promote the general welfare of the community by providing recreational activities for children and other citizens of the Town of Woodstock.


The full Recreation Commission meets monthly, usually on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Special Subcommittee meetings are scheduled as needed. Agendas and minutes are available at the Town Hall and on this website. Meetings are open to the public.


The Recreation Commission is a five member group created by the Board of Selectmen. The terms of office are two years running concurrently with the Board of Selectmen each municipal election.

We need volunteers. Do you have great ideas? Would you like to see new programs? Do you have a little time? If you would like more information on how to get involved with this fun and dedicated commission, call us at 860-928-6595 ext. 333.

Woodstock Fuel Assistance Donations: The Woodstock Recreation Commission is pleased to announce that we were able to donate $1,000 from the Memorial Day 10K Road Race proceeds to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund. We donated an additional $700 to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund from the proceeds of our 6th Annual Town Wide Tag Sale. Thank you to our sponsors for those two events, and to everyone who participated. 

New Recreation Park Facility: Located on Senexet Village Road (Behind the Beeches Real Estate off Route 171): Soccer field, walking trail, and basketball court. For more information contact the Recreation Department.

After School Girls Volleyball: Open to all girls in 6th through 8th grade, this program is a great way to learn the game of volleyball and further develop your skills. Practices will be held on March 4, 11, 12, 18, and 20 after school from 2:30-3:30pm at the Woodstock Middle School. Cost to attend is $25. Registration deadline is Monday, March 2. Ski Club: This is an after school program for children in grades 5-12 enrolled in Woodstock Middle School and Woodstock Academy. This program allows students to downhill ski/snowboard at Wachusett Mountain after school on Tuesdays for 6 weeks (January 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, February 4th, 11th) with possible make-up dates of February 25th and March 3rd. Registrations will be in two parts: (1) Contact and Authorization for Medical Treatment Forms will be available at the Woodstock Town Hall, First Selectman’s Office. There will be some registration packets at the Middle School and Academy offices. (2) Your registration packet will have an online code (WSTR) to register for our program through Wachusett. This can be found online at This is to register for ski passes, lessons and/or equipment. BOTH of these steps must be completed and payment in full made for transportation. Registration forms must be returned to the Woodstock Town Hall, First Selectman’s Office so the skier/snowboarder may be issued a number to save a seat on the bus. All registrations to Wachusett HAVE to be done by December 4, 2019 or there is a $14 late charge. This program is offered on a first come, first served basis to the first 100 students. Yoga 2020 Winter Session will be held at the Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1. Classes will take place on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm on the following dates: January 6, 13, 27, February 3, 10, 24, March 2, 9. The cost is $64 for 8 classes, $35 for 4 classes, or a drop in rate of $10 per class. Click here to download the registration form. 

Kids Yoga at Woodstock Middle School: In this class we will focus on the breath, releasing our worries, compassion for ourselves and others, listening to and respecting our bodies, as well as will be introduced to new yoga poses each week that will aid in strengthening and lengthening their bodies. Each student will receive a new crystal weekly. Each session will feature a different theme and run after school in the cafeteria on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:25pm. The schedule for yoga is as follows: Session 1 (Mindfulness) September 11 through October 9, Session 2 (Gratitude) November 13 through December 11, Session 3 (Balancing and Flexibility) February 9 through March 11, and Session 4 (Wellness) May 6 through May 27. Kids Yoga at Woodstock Elementary School: In this class we will focus on the breath, releasing our worries, compassion for ourselves and others, listening to and respecting our bodies, as well as will be introduced to new yoga poses each week that will aid in strengthening and lengthening their bodies. Guided meditation and processing through writing or drawing (student’s choice) with be incorporated. Sessions will feature a different theme and run after school in the front lobby on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. The schedule for yoga is as follows: Session 1 (Animals and Transportation) October 16 through November 6, Session 2 (Seasons/Weather) January 8 through February 5, and Session 3 (Kindness and Friendship) March 25 through April 22. Adult Co-Ed Basketball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Monday nights from 7:00-9:00pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 16th through June 8th for open gym basketball. If there is a holiday or half day on a Monday, we will play on Wednesday night of that week. This free program is open to anyone 18 and older. Click here to download a registration form.

Adult Co-Ed Volleyball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Tuesday nights from 7:30-10:30pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 17th through June 9th for a fun night of volleyball. There is no volleyball during school breaks and holidays. This program is open to all skills levels of players who are 18 and older. There is an annual fee of $10 per player. Youth Basketball (K-4th Grade): This program is a great way to learn the game of basketball in a fun and relaxed environment. Practices/scrimmages will be held on Saturdays, January 11/18/25, February 1/8/22/29, and March 7 at the Woodstock Middle School Gym. The schedule for Saturdays is: Kindergarten 8-8:30am, First Grade 8:30-9:15am, Second Grade 9:15-10:15am, Third Grade 10:15-11:15am, and Fourth Grade 11:15am-12:15pm. Volunteer coaches are needed and all head coaches will be comped the player registration fee. Click here to download a registration form. Registration deadline is December 27th. 

Youth Basketball (5th-8th Grade): The season will kick off with evaluation nights at the Woodstock Middle School Gym on November 20th for Girls (5th/6th Grade 7-8pm and 7th/8th Grade 8-9pm) and November 21st for Boys (5th/6th Grade 7-8pm and 7th/8th Grade 8-9pm). All interested players will be placed on a team. This night is just to further assist in creating fair rosters for all our teams. Following evaluation night, each coach will contact parents informing them on practice days/times for the season. Schedule for games will be released in December. Volunteer coaches and refs are needed. All head coaches will be comped the player registration fee. Click here to download a registration form. Winter Volleyball: Develop and improve your skills as you practice and scrimmage over 8 weeks this winter at the Pomfret Prep School Gym. This season we will be offering two sessions with 2 courts allowing for varying ability/experience levels: The first is open to all beginner level players looking to learn and improve the skills of the game, while the second is geared towards advanced players with at least one-year of playing on a team experience. The first session will run from 12:00-1:30pm and the second session is 1:30-3:30pm on Sundays January 5th through February 23rd with snow dates in March. Winter Festival: The Woodstock Recreation Department is hosting a Winter Festival on Sunday, December 15th from 10am to 4pm. This free event is open to everyone to enjoy a variety of activities and promotions throughout the Town of Woodstock at participating businesses as well as organizations. Those participants will be placed on our festival map outlining their activity or promotion along with onsite location or Roseland Park Barn. At Roseland Park there will be activities from participants, food, and music all concluding with a tree lighting ceremony presented by the Woodstock American Legion Benson-Flugel Post 111 tentatively scheduled for 4:30pm. As a part of the festivities we will be featuring a passport program. Each participant will have its own unique stamp while you are enjoying the different activities or promotions. Bring your sheet to the Tree Lighting Ceremony to enter the drawing for a chance to win a variety of great prizes from local businesses! Drawing will take place following the ceremony. Join us for a day of holiday fun with the whole family! This is a great way to support and learn more about all the local businesses and organizations we have in the Town of Woodstock. Wii for Seniors

Wii Gaming for Woodstock Seniors: The Wii Gaming System is a fun, interactive program that promotes healthy lifestyles through physical active play. Games include tennis, bowling, golf, and dancing. Games are played on a big screen with the use of hand held controllers. The cost is FREE. Please contact the recreation director to schedule your introductory session. All participants must fill out a waiver of liability prior to using the game system. Click here to download the waiver.

Community Kitchen - Every Monday at noon at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock there is a community kitchen event. Local churches take turns each week preparing and serving a free meal for all guests who come. Meals are not served on Holidays, and when Woodstock schools are cancelled.

Tai Chi - Every Tuesday and Thursday there is a free, informal Tai Chi class offered at the East Woodstock Congregational Church from 10-11 am.

 2020 Bus Trips


Boston Flower and Garden Show: Join the Thompson and Woodstock Recreation Department on a trip to the Boston Flower and Garden Show on Saturday, March 14th. Bus will leave Thompson Middle School at 8:30am and return home at approximately 6:30pm. Cost is $52 per person for Thompson/Woodstock Residents and $57 for Non-Residents.
