Recreation Commission

MISSION

The purpose of the Recreation Commission to promote the general welfare of the community by providing recreational activities for children and other citizens of the Town of Woodstock.

MEETING SCHEDULE

The full Recreation Commission meets monthly, usually on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. See the Calendar tab (above) for upcoming meetings. Special Subcommittee meetings are scheduled as needed. Agendas and minutes are available at the Town Hall and on this website. Meetings are open to the public.

MEMBERSHIP

The Recreation Commission is a five member group created by the Board of Selectmen. The terms of office are two years running concurrently with the Board of Selectmen each municipal election.

We need volunteers. Do you have great ideas? Would you like to see new programs? Do you have a little time? If you would like more information on how to get involved with this fun and dedicated commission, call us at 860-928-6595 ext. 305.

RECREATION NEWS

Woodstock Fuel Assistance Donations: The Woodstock Recreation Commission is pleased to announce that we were able to donate $1,000 from the Memorial Day 10K Road Race proceeds to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund. We donated an additional $700 to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund from the proceeds of our 6th Annual Town Wide Tag Sale. Thank you to our sponsors for those two events, and to everyone who participated. 

New Recreation Park Facility: Located on Senexet Village Road (Behind the Beeches Real Estate off Route 171): Soccer field, walking trail, and basketball court. For more information contact the Recreation Department.

ONGOING PROGRAMS

Wii for SeniorsWii Gaming for Woodstock Seniors: The Wii Gaming System is a fun, interactive program that promotes healthy lifestyles through physical active play. Games include tennis, bowling, golf, and dancing. Games are played on a big screen with the use of hand held controllers. The cost is FREE. The program begins October 8th and is located at the Woodstock Town Hall, Lower Level, on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10:00 am to noon. All participants must fill out a waiver of liability prior to using the game system.

 

 

2017-2018 RECREATION PROGRAMS  

     

Senior Fitness - Essentrics Age Reverse & Rebalance Exercise Class: Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 - 10:00 am. Please note: No Classes during the month of August. There is a minimal charge of $2 per class for residents and $3 per class for non-residents. All classes are held in the lower level of the Woodstock Town Hall and are part of the Woodstock Recreation Department's Senior Exercise Program.

Twilight Concert Series: Concerts will be held on Friday evenings at Roseland Cottage, the "Pink House," at 7pm. Concerts are free. Bring a blanket, chairs and have a picnic out on the lawn!

            Beck N' Call - June 22 (rain date is June 30)

            The 102nd Army Band - July 27 (no rain date)

            The Little Big Band - August 10 (rain date is Thursday, August 16)

Summer Tennis Camps at Bentley Athletic Complex. Tennis lessons and camps will be held at the Charles Bentley Athletic Complex. One hour lessons from beginner to advanced in the mornings  from July 2-6 and July 9-13. Camps are two hours long from 9-11 am and go July 16-20, August 6-10, and August 13-17. Open to children age 5 and over. Click here to download the Summer Tennis flier.

Summer Volleyball Camps at Woodstock Academy. Three general skills volleyball camps will be held at Woodstock Academy Gymnasium (North Campus). These camps are a great opportunity to learn and develop the proper fundamentals of the game. Session dates are July 9-13, July 16-20, and 23-27. Time is from 6 pm-8:30 pm. Open to boys & girls entering grades 4th-12th. Click here to download the Summer Volleyball flier.

Preseason Volleyball Camp at Woodstock Academy. A preseason volleyball camp will be held at Woodstock Academy Gymnasium (North Campus). This camp is a great opportunity to practice skills and scrimmage prior to the start of volleyball season. Session dates are August 20-22. Time is from 6 pm-8:30 pm. Yoga Summer Session will be held at the Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1. Classes will take place on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm on the following dates: July 16, 23, 30, August 6, 20, and 27. There will be no class August 13. The cost is $48 for 6 classes, $35 for 4 classes, or a drop in rate of $10 per class. Click here for the Summer 2 Yoga registration form. 

 Zumba Summer Session will be held at the Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1. Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm on the following dates: July 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.
